Concept

Interpreting estrangement and reconciliation found in Suzann Victor’s Still Waters as the form and formlessness inherently found in water, the art direction of this year’s M1 Singapore Fringe Festival uses organic shapes to bring out the adaptability of water and how it changes and reacts to the situation that it has been given just as the artistic community in Singapore changes, adapts and grows along with governmental policies.

These organic shapes are further blurred, overlapped upon each other and over the performance images to draw on water’s ability to also create illusions and transform the familiar in a brand new light. This continues to reinforce the role of the Fringe Festival as a platform that challenges preconceived notions and set perspectives, an opportunity to re-interpret things with a fresh eye.
