ABOUT THE
M1 SINGAPORE
FRINGE FESTIVAL
The M1 Singapore Fringe Festival is an annual festival of live art created and presented by Singaporean and international artists. Themed differently each year, the Festival aims to bring the best of contemporary, cutting-edge and socially engaged works to the Singapore audience.
The M1 Singapore Fringe Festival is set to be a creative centre, with the twin purpose of innovation and discussion, a platform for meaningful and provocative art to engage our increasingly connected and complex world.
2021’s edition of the Fringe sees the return of The Necessary Stage’s (TNS) Artistic Director Alvin Tan at the helm. Since the inception of the Fringe in 2005 to 2014, Alvin, together with TNS Resident Playwright Haresh Sharma, were the co-Artistic Directors of the Fringe. From 2015 to 2020, Sean Tobin, former Head of Theatre at School of the Arts (SOTA) took over the mantle and brought a freshness to the programming of the Fringe as well as its engagement with emerging artists. With Alvin’s renewed artistic directorship, the Fringe aims to strengthen its social engagement through the arts, in alignment with TNS’ ethos and philosophy.
