FROM M1

Art has always been an excellent representation of what might be difficult to put into words, and a way to organise the world and its reality. This year, in spite of and because of the challenges and trials that COVID-19 has wrought, it is our honour to present the 17th edition of the M1 Singapore Fringe Festival with the theme Quiet Riot.

Courage does not always have to roar. Protests need not be loud to be heard. Quiet dissent speaks just as loudly. Exploring the beauty in the silent strength and dignity that holds the promise of heralding change and bridging differences, the collection of artistic works for the 2021 Fringe seeks to challenge preconceived notions and societal expectations.

As a strong supporter of Singapore arts and culture since 1997, it has been an absolute pleasure for M1 to contribute to our local arts scene, and to grow its quality, diversity and depth from strength to strength. Similarly, it is our privilege to work with The Necessary Stage, in supporting and curating the mix of works – with artists hailing from Australia, Cambodia, Canada, as well as from our very own Singapore.

Throughout the two-week festival from 20th to 31st January 2021, we invite you to delve deeper (while remaining socially distant), explore alternate freedoms, and venture out of the box with us, quiet and proud.
