微 Wei Collective & Collaborators
(Singapore)
Why do we feel rootless?
Why do we feel like aliens on our land?
We created man-made things to protect ourselves from nature. Yet because of this, we are alienated from nature.
We are shaken, unplugged— how do we find our centre?
Through the relationship between man and sea, we seek to discover what it means to be an intricate part of nature. In be-ing, we attempt to draw strength from nature, and from that source, we discover how to be at ease in the sea of life.
In this rendition, 微 Wei Collective & Collaborators dives into the exploration of breath, within and outside of themselves. With the philosophy of “Space X Time X Material”, the collective uses light, sound, and textures as the main medium for this performance, digging deeper, hoping to reconnect us city-dwellers back to a root— our breath.

RELATION TO THE HELPERS
How much do we know about breathing? What does it mean to breathe well? The delicate dance of breathing in and out is also a connection (and disconnection) to one’s mind. The rhythm of breath is in every exchange of two worlds—the inside and the outside. In this work, we explore and make discoveries about the fragility and strength of breathing, and how the sharing of breath helps us as well as the people around us.
Why do we feel like we don’t belong to our land?
We make things to protect ourselves from nature. But, this keeps us apart from nature
We cannot find peace. How can we connect better?
This performance looks at how man and sea connect with each other.
We look at what it means to be a part of nature. We find strength from nature so that we feel at ease.
We look at breath from inside and outside of ourselves. We look at how space, time and materials connect. We use light, sound and textures to look deeper. We hope people living in the city can feel they belong using their breath.
